DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer does not want a repeat of 2025 when it took lawmakers until October 7th to get her an $81-billion Fiscal Year 2026 budget to sign.
Whitmer said at the Detroit Auto Show Thursday the House and Senate need to reach a budget deal and get it to her by June 30 for her signature.
She also wants the Michigan Reconnect program to be permanently expanded to 21-year-olds and ordered the state to explore “geologic hydrogens” as a clean energy source.
Lawmakers set a July 1st deadline for approving a new budget in 2019, but there are no penalties for missing the deadline.
