KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A water main break on West Main Street has triggered a boil water alert for a section of town, and will disrupt traffic on the busy commuter route for at least the next week.
The area affected by the boilwater alert begins at Fletcher and Althea Street, runs down Fletcher to West Main, where it turns west down the State Trunk Line to Nichols Road.
Apparently the Cloisters get their water from another main, because they are not impacted.
Homes and businesses in that area are advised to boil or buy any water they plan to ingest until the city says it’s safe to drink again.
The four lanes have been reduced to two lanes to reroute traffic around the spot where the water main broke and new pavement will have to be laid and cured.
They don’t expect to be able to reopen the roadway until the 26th, a week from Monday.
