SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Lake Superior State University has released its 50th annual “Banished Words List” to start 2026.
LSSU professors began the list in 1976 as an idea from a New Year’s Eve party and had around 1,400 submissions this time from all 50 states and other countries.
At the top of the list this year is “six-seven,” which was also named by Dictionary.com as their 2025 word of the year.
Also in the top ten are “demure,” “incentivize,” “full stop,” “perfect,” “gift/gifted,” “my bad,” and “reach out,” with the last two also being on the same list in 1998 and 1994, respectively.
