KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s office is cracking down on a series of mail thefts in the recent months.
Since Thanksgiving of last year, the sheriff’s department has received over 100 calls of larceny from mailboxes.
After further investigations, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Rick Fuller says these thieves are impersonating mail-carriers by going mailbox to mailbox picking up checks and using routing numbers to steal from homeowners.
Luckily, by working with the postal service and bank detectives, authorities identified 30 people involved in the mail thefts and 10 have been arrested, but there are still many more out there.
Fuller added that homeowners can call 911 if they see anything suspicious or drop off their mail to a blue U.S. postal service box to ensure that it is safe.
