KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo man arrested for causing a crash that killed a Kalamazoo couple has been charged and ordered held on $500,000 bond.
Public Safety says that 56-year-old Thomas Vyverman fled officers at a high rate of speed headed north on narrow twisting Portage Street Tuesday night, slamming into a car at Crosstown Parkway.
Mary and Juan Muniz died at the scene from their injuries.
Vyverman, showing some of the injuries he suffered in the crash, told the judge he was scheduled to go back to Alcoholics Anonymous and said he was not dangerous, especially now that he had no vehicle. The judge called him a very dangerous man and set the high bond.
He is charged with two counts of driving drunk causing death, two counts of fleeing police causing death and one count of resisting.
