PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Van Buren County has spent 60% of its snow plowing budget and winter is still 10 days away from officially starting. However, the county’s fiscal year ends December 31, so they will not have any budget issues this winter.
Van Buren County Road Commission managing director Bret Witkowski says in the last two weeks, there have only been two days when they did not have plows out clearing the roads.
The early snow combined with several rounds of snow in January and February have their budget strained right now, but Witkowski says they are still committed to keeping the roads safe and as clear as they can. He adds he is confident they won’t need to increase their budget.
The road commission reallocated money originally intended for summer road work to the winter plowing efforts.
