LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan’s new 24% marijuana wholesale tax will move forward after a judge ruled the challenge against it is unlikely to succeed.
The tax, set to begin January 1st, 2026, is expected to help fund road projects backed by the governor and legislative leaders.
The Michigan Cannabis Industry Association argues the tax violates the 2018 voter-approved marijuana law and plans to appeal.
State officials say they will collect the tax on wholesale transfers, self-produced products, and sales between medical and recreational businesses.
Industry leaders warn the added cost may push prices higher for consumers.
