BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek’s Fire Chief has resigned. Dave Schmaltz had already put one foot out the door by taking a leave of absence in February to “focus on his personal well-being and consider his future options.”
That was the only information that was released.
The City manager says they will begin a search for a permanent replacement immediately.
In the meantime, Police Chief Jim Blocker, who has been serving as the interim Fire Chief, as well as doing his own job, will remain in that temporary role.
