COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Organizers will now begin collecting signatures to put the recall of officials in Comstock and Oshtemo townships on the ballot.
The Kalamazoo County Election Committee met Thursday to review 16 recall petitions for nine township board members. The committee is responsible for determining if the wording on the petitions is clear and factually true.
The approved petition language is valid for 180 days. Once petitioners begin gathering signatures, they have 60 days to do so.
Kalamazoo County Clerk Meredith Place says in Comstock Township, 1,817 signatures are needed, with 2,604 needed in Oshtemo Township. Depending on when they are turned in, the recall elections could be in May or November 2026.
In Comstock Township, those facing recall are Clerk Nicole Beauchamp, as well as trustees Kristie Cherry, Terry McIver, and Bob Pratt.
In Oshtemo Township, it’s Supervisor Cheri Bell, Clerk Dusty Farmer, and trustees Neil Sikora, Zak Ford, and Kristin Cole.
Comstock Township Supervisor Ben Martin, Treasurer Sandy Bloomfield and trustee Jerry Amos also face possible recall, with an election committee hearing on those petitions December 11.
The recall efforts comes as both townships deal with the debate over proposed battery energy storage system developments.
