KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The 52nd annual Holiday Art Sale at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is happening this week.
Members can shop the art sale from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 4th, and the sale opens to the public on Friday, December 5th from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 6th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The sale features what the KIA says are one-of-a-kind artworks from over 160 faculty and students of the Kirk Newman Art School.
Officials say wearable fiber art and jewelry pieces will be available along with handmade original prints, photos, and paintings; functional and decorative home goods; cards, stationary and holiday ornaments; decorative glass, sculpture, ceramics, and more.
The first Holiday Art Sale was launched in December 1973 as the “Pottery Sale” by Tom Kendall, head of the Ceramics Department at the school.
The first Pottery Sale was an overwhelming success and was officially renamed as the Holiday Art Sale a few years later, aiding each participating department in raising the funds needed for discipline specific equipment and supplies.
The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is located at 314 South Park Street in downtown Kalamazoo, and free parking is available on South and Lovell streets.
