PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – There were no injuries in a kitchen fire at a Portage home Sunday morning.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. the Portage Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the 6800 block of Rothbury Street for a reported
residential structure fire. The caller stated there was fire in the kitchen.
Responding units encountered heavy snow-covered streets and arrived on scene less than seven minutes after the 911 call. Smoke was observed coming from the front door of the residence.
All occupants had safely exited the home prior to the arrival of fire personnel.
The initial crew located a fire in the kitchen area that had been partially
extinguished by the occupants. Fire Division personnel got the fire out and ventilated the structure. Damage is estimated at $30,000.
No injuries to responding personnel or occupants were reported. The cause of
the fire remains under investigation.
