KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — At Western Michigan University nearly 2,500 diplomas were handed out on Saturday. A few grads have commitments to the armed forces, and some plan graduate work, but most of them will be entering the workforce.
And with the economy at nearly full employment, it’s a good time to be job hunting. A study of last year’s success rate showed it only took three months for 85% of their grads to get a job in their field, and 88% said they were happy, even if the job they got was not in their field.
University Spokesperson Cheryl Roland says getting a degree will mean a higher starting salary and a higher standard of living for life. The typical college grad earns a million more dollars over a lifetime.
She says the study tracks where students go after graduation and it can be a guide for those thinking about a major.
