KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Police work is dangerous and being a police dog can be even more threatening because they are often the first to confront a criminal, and they do it armed only with a growl and their teeth.
The four K9’s working for the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department have all received military grade field trauma kits thanks to a gift from the Colin Rose Memorial Foundation and Projects Paws Alive.
The first aid kit for canines contains supplies specifically designed to treat injuries ranging from gunshot and knife wounds to snake bites.
It also contains the necessary tools to address the major traumatic injuries common to dogs operating in the law enforcement as well as common K9 emergencies.
Colin Rose is the former Richland officer and K9 handler who was killed while on duty working at Wayne State University.
