MENDON (WKZO AM/FM) — It took a team effort to save the life of seven-year-old Chad Fenwick who was playing by the bank of the St. Joseph River in near Mill and Fremont Streets in Mendon when he fell in the water.
First his 8-year-old sister Charity jumped in and grabbed the boy, whose head went under the flowing water, while she screamed for help.
Their father ran over and pulled them both out.
He began CPR, which was taken over by a Michigan State Trooper, who was successful after 15-minutes of getting the boy to cough up river water and regain color as an Ambulance from South County Kalamazoo arrived and put him on a respirator.
He is being treated for water on the lungs and an infection at Bronson Methodist, but is expected to recover.
