KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – You may get a knock on your door this weekend, and it won’t be trick-or-treaters.
Kalamazoo Public Schools superintendent Darrin Slade says he and a group of staff volunteers will be visiting the homes of students who have been missing too many classes.
“We’re doing this once a month for the rest of the year. We want our students in school,” says Slade. “We need our students in school and we’re gonna have real conversations when we interact with our parents this weekend.”
He says he began the door-to-door campaign last year, and it was one of the reasons they saw a significant drop in truancy.
“This is not a positive if you have attendance issues from this early in the school because we have about 100 students families that have been identified.”
The “Knock-to-Talk” team will come armed with information on programs and assistance to help make sure kids have what they need to be in school every day.

thanks for the heads up are you really telling everyone this good luck with that
