LANSING, MI — General Motors will be building the new Cadillac CT5 sedan at Lansing’s Grand River Assembly Plant just south of downtown Lansing, but it will be gas powered and not electric as previously announced.
Cadillac announced Wednesday that the current generation of the CT4 and CT5, including the V-series, will be retired from production after the 2026 model year, according to a report from media partner 6 News WLNS in Lansing. The next generation CT5 will begin production at the Lansing plant in a future model year, following a $1.25 billion investment for retooling from General Motors.
GM had announced last year that it planned to convert the Grand River Assembly Plant into an electric vehicle production facility, but those plans have changed with America’s declining interest in electric vehicles.
The automaker have laid off hundreds of employees from the plant since early 2024 after it stopped production of the Chevy Camaro at the Lansing facility.
