KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A Muskegon man has been convicted of first degree murder in the shooting death of WMU Student Jacob Jones during a drug rip-off at the SoHo Apartments.
22-year-old Jordan Waire will get mandatory life without parole when he is sentenced June 25th.
Police say that Waire, with the assistance of high school teammate Joviare Kennedy, busted into Jones’ apartment and fatally shot him in front of a number of witnesses back in December of 2016.
Kennedy, a WMU varsity basketball player at the time, initially cut a deal with prosecutors and testified against Waire at his preliminary hearing. That tape was used at Waire’s trial.
It took the jury three hours to find Waire guilty of premeditated murder, armed robbery and several gun felonies.
Kennedy has since cancelled his deal with prosecutors and will face a jury on June 5th.
