KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Monday is sentencing day in the Kalamazoo Courts and the most notable name on the list of offenders due for a date with a judge is 59-year-old Michael Spencer who is charged with plowing into a Metro Transit Bus head-on while he was going about 100 miles per hour.
He was intoxicated at the time.
The driver of the bus lost her leg and four passengers suffered less serious injuries. Spencer cut a deal with prosecutors pleading to operating while intoxicated causing serious injury
. Normally it’s a felony with a maximum of 5-years in prison. The fact that Spencer has four previous convictions for driving while intoxicated will be a factor for the judge to consider.
