KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Township and the City of Kalamazoo are currently accepting applications for medical marijuana permits.
Portage City Manager Larry Schaffer says they will issue their final rules this week and then begin accepting applications on Monday, June 18th.
However, it may take longer than expected to open the new businesses because the state approval process is moving very slowly. Very few licenses have been approved.
Citizens in Ross Township in northeastern Kalamazoo County are clamoring for their local board to rescind already approved ordinances that would allow medical marijuana businesses in that jurisdiction, or at least put it up for a vote of the residents.
That township has already received three applications from interested entrepreneurs.
