KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Plainwell Department of Public Safety officers say the homeless man who threatened a bank with a bomb scare has been arrested.
It happened just before 11 a.m. Thursday at the PNC Bank on North Main Street when the robber claimed he had a bomb and handed a note to the teller demanding cash.
After the suspect fled a suspicious backpack was found behind the bank and the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was called in.
Nearby buildings and streets were shut down as authorities investigated, but the backpack ended up being harmless and full of clothes.
Surveillance videos show the suspect wearing a white hat, a blue crew shirt with a darker blue collar, khaki pants and sunglasses, but he was taking off layers after he fled the bank.
The suspect is currently lodged at the Allegan County Jail and will be facing charges in Federal Court.
