PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — A Portage woman has been formally charged with killing her 5-month-old son after apparently admitting that she hit her twin boys Logan and Noah to keep them quiet.
It began at the end of January at a home in the 10,000 block of Woodlawn Drive in Portage when officers and EMT’s responded to a call about 5-month-old Logan having a seizure.
A medical evaluation of the boy revealed suspicious injuries, triggering an investigation that eventually led to an examination of Noah and the discovery of similar injuries.
The mother, 22-year-old Jennifer Anne Mohler, was stripped of custody.
On Thursday Mohler was charged with felony murder and two counts of first degree child abuse, is being held without bond and is facing the possibility of life without parole.
The father of the boys is now seeking custody of Noah.
He is the suspect’s former step-dad who was living with Mohler when she got pregnant but did not know that when he kicked her out.
She spent some time in a Holland shelter before moving to Portage.
