GALESBURG (WKZO AM/FM) — Galesburg’s former Police Chief Jeff Heppler is suing his former employer.
The suit, filed in circuit court, alleges age and weight discrimination.
Heppler claims that Galesburg’s elected officials got rid of him and the entire department because they said he was too old and fat to do the job.
At the time Heppler was also the Police Chief and Village Manager in Augusta, and a County Commissioner for a while.
He also ran for County Sheriff but lost.
However, village trustees say they thought they would get better service by contracting with the sheriff’s department.
Heppler is seeking lost wages and damages.
