KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A state-wide campaign hoping to link high school students to available, high-tech, and high-skill apprenticeship opportunities is launching in Kalamazoo.
Through the Experience Sooner campaign students will receive specialized training and the company will benefit from a specialized employee.
Michigan Workforce Development Agency Director Stephanie Beckhorn says the 3-year program is a public and private collaborative that allows students to earn their degree, paid for by the employer, and earn cash while on the job.
13 apprenticeship opportunities will be offered to students at 5 Kalamazoo-area employers and they’re hoping to bring more companies into the campaign to close the gap on the need for more advanced manufacturing employees.
