KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Kalamazoo New Year’s Fest will take place in a hybrid format this year.
According to an official announcement, outdoor space in Downtown Kalamazoo will be utilized for in-person activity under CDC guidelines, while virtual performances will be streamed online and through the Public Media Network.
The event begins at 7:00 p.m. NYE and runs until 12 a.m., with performance timeslots set for a half hour each.
Organizers of the event from the Kalamazoo Experiential Learning Center are still encouraging participants to patronize local businesses and enjoy light displays while visiting downtown.
Admission to the event will require the purchase of a button for $5, or the purchase of a family pack for $25. The family pack will include coloring sheets, noise makers, beads, and information on what the hybrid event will offer.
Family kits and buttons can be purchased online now until December 30, and they can be picked up in person at the Kalamazoo Experiential Learning Center (KELC) office between December 28 and 30.
Other options, including locations for purchasing buttons in person, can also be found on the website. Purchasers should note that some locations will only accept cash for the buttons.
