DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers are looking to add pitching during the offseason, despite having five possible starters and prospects who may be ready to make the move to Detroit.
New manager A.J. Hinch said the team was looking to enhance the pitching staff. Hinch also said the organization has to be careful with the younger pitchers and starting veteran MIchael Fulmer as he works his way back after Tommy John surgery.
Earlier this week the Tigers signed reliever Ian Krol to a minor league deal.
Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association are at odds over when to start the 2021 season. One American League owner tells USA Today that he doesn’t see any way that spring training can begin in February. The anonymous owner also said whether they play a full or shortened season, they have to make sure everyone is safe.
The report states owners want the season to be delayed until May so players can be vaccinated.
The players, however, are pushing to start on time and play a full 162-game schedule with full pay.
