KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – In two years, Western Michigan University basketball and hockey, along with the Kalamazoo Wings, will have a brand-new home.
Greenleaf Hospitality Group says the downtown Kalamazoo Events Center, currently under construction, is expected to be open in 2027 and will replace Lawson Ice Arena, University Arena, and Wings Event Center.
The $300-million privately funded arena is being built at 411 West Kalamazoo Avenue and will seat 6,500 fans for hockey and basketball and 8,000 for concerts and shows.
WMU’s University Arena opened in 1957, and Wings Event Center and Lawson Ice Arena both opened in 1974.
More information on the Kalamazoo Event Center is available at this website.
