KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A charge is being dropped against the former director of the Kalamazoo Strong organization accused of stealing over $4,000 from the nonprofit.
34-year-old Rachel Kaiser entered a guilty plea on Monday to a felony count of using a computer to commit a crime and in exchange, her one count of embezzlement was dismissed.
She turned herself into authorities back in March when board members discovered money was missing from the organization and that Kaiser was issuing herself a credit card and spending money from the fund on personal expenses.
Kalamazoo Strong was formed to raise money for the victims of Kalamazoo’s mass shooting, and then expanded the effort to include the victims of the bike tragedy a few months later.
The county prosecutor’s office expects that she will pay restitution for the money she stole but no other recommendations have been announced.
Kaiser is scheduled to be sentenced on October 15th.
