KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies are releasing the name of the passenger killed in a high speed crash in Schoolcraft.
Schoolcraft police say one of their officers spotted a vehicle driving carelessly in the village and then sped off down 14th Avenue at about 3:45 p.m Sunday.
The officer was trying to catch up, but the driver was going too fast.
That’s when 18-year-old Wyatt Hardy from Vicksburg failed to stop at a stop sign and rear-ended a couple’s vehicle at the intersection of 14th Street and XY Avenue.
David Bailey lives near the intersection and said he heard the loud crash that shook his house as he sat inside.
50-year-old Jamis Jourdan from Centerville was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband and driver 44-year-old Bill Jourdan was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries as well as Hardy who could face multiple charges.
For now, the crash remains under investigation.
