BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — A suspect is on the run after stealing a vehicle from a Battle Creek gas station, taking it on a brief ride, and then ditching it when he realized two children were sitting inside.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon at the Citgo gas station at the corner of Capital and McKinley Avenues.
Chris Gillfillan, was pumping gas when he saw a truck peel out of the lot and a mother ran out of the gas station screaming that her truck was just stolen and that her 2 children were inside of it.
The two ran after the suspect.
The truck was found ditched about a block away with the suspect nowhere to be found, but the children ages 4 and 8 were safe inside.
Police say the suspect, described as a black male in his late 20’s wearing a white t-shirt and gray sweatpants, is still at large.
