PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — A teen killed in a Portage crash that injured 6 other people has been identified.
It occurred just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on Northbound U.S.-131 south of West Center Avenue near mile marker 29.
Public Public Safety officials say a Mazda Six carrying five children and driven by a 48-year-old from Elkhart was apparently having mechanical problems and slowing down when it was struck from behind by a Chevy Avalanche driven by a 29-year-old man from Three Rivers.
Portage Public Safety officials say a Mazda 6 was having possible mechanical issues and driving slowly on northbound 131 between U and Center Avenues Wednesday morning when it was rear-ended by a 29-year-old man from Three Rivers.
15-year-old Matthew Colvin of Wyoming was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 2 drivers and 4 other children were rushed to the hospital with minor injuries.
The investigation and cleanup closed the highway for several hours. Charges or citations may result.
