STURGIS (WKZO AM/FM) — Two men from Indiana are in custody after they led Sturgis police on a chase through the city’s waste water treatment plant and drove their vehicle into a retention pond.
Sturgis officers were notified about the group driving over the Indiana State Line on South Centerville Road just before 11 p.m. Wednesday and they joined in on the pursuit.
The suspects tried to lose police by speeding through the properties of two large factories in the area but the chase continued.
Eventually, the driver went down Treatment Plant Road, crashed through the front gates of the plant, and launched the vehicle into the water.
Three suspects, a 27-year-old driver, a 41 year-old, and a 30-year-old were quickly arrested.
The driver is facing multiple felony charges including fleeing, eluding, possession of meth and a stolen vehicle, among others, one passenger has drug and outstanding warrant offenses, and both are now in the St. Joseph County Jail.
The 30-year-old passenger was only cited and released for misdemeanor charges.
