KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies are still investigating a car pedestrian crash that critically injured a former Kalamazoo County Comissioner.
74-year-old Jerome Kohel was walking with his wife along Gull Road near the Gull Run Apartments in Comstock Township late Sunday morning when he was struck and ran over by a truck.
Several witnesses, including an off-duty medical professional, provided first aid while emergency medical responders rushed to the scene.
Calls came into the County Consolidated Dispatch Center at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Kohel was admitted into the Borgess Medical Center in critical condition with multiple injuries.
The 27-year-old Kalamazoo man who was driving the car could face charges.
The crash is still under investigation but County Deputies say alcohol was not a factor.
