PARCHMENT (WKZO AM/FM) — Work continues to restore safe water to Parchment, but health officials say they aren’t there just yet.
Public utility crews have completed the second of three water stations on Park Avenue, which is now operational, but work continues on the final station on Spanish Road.
So far Parchment is the only water system in Michigan that has been tested to show PFAS levels that exceed safe standards.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has identified 1,841 public water systems and school districts that operate their own wells, collected samples from 892 of them, and only have 341 test results back.
Results showed 318 had trace amounts on PFAS, 22 samples have between 10 and 70 parts per trillion, and only the Parchment City System was higher than 70 ppt.
Affected residents should continue using bottled water until further notice.
The free water distribution center has relocated to Haven Reformed Church and is only open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
