PARCHMENT (WKZO AM/FM) — The latest test results show the amount of PFAS in Parchment has dropped.
The tainted water system that was once over 1400 parts per trillion has dipped down to just 6 to 8 parts per trillion.
That’s about 176 times lower than the original sample and well below the level considered unsafe by the EPA.
But Michigan Department of Environmental Quality’s Scott Dean says they need to do more testing to avoid the kind of unintended consequences that resulted in the Flint water crisis.
That means testing for lead, copper, pH, alkalinity, chlorine, sulfate, iron, manganese, disinfection by-products, residual chlorine, residual phosphate and others.
They recommend homeowners continue to use bottled water for now.
The Water Distribution Center is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Haven Reformed Church.
