KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo City Commissioners have endorsed plans to create the Northside Cultural Business District Authority, as part of a larger neighborhood improvement plan.
As part of the Imagine Kalamazoo Masterplan, each neighborhood has been asked to create an improvement plan of its own. Those plans will then receive funding from the City and whatever other sources they can find for execution.
NACD Director Mattie Jordan-Woods says their plan is to assist Northside residents to open new businesses and create the space to do it.
The authority will allow them to capture some future tax revenues for improvements, if it’s approved in a couple of months.
The plan also includes the business incubator, low income housing and other amenities that we were the first to report about last week. It will move forward with or without the creation of the Authority.
