KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Negotiations between the City of Kalamazoo and a group of homeless protesters have gotten off to a bumpy start.
The protesters rejected an offer from the city to move their tents to a vacant lot owned by the Gospel Mission where they would have access to water and portable restrooms for a month.
They first complained about their new location on the front driveway of the old Fire Station #1 saying it was overcrowded, too sunny, and inhumane.
Some demonstrators say that they turned down the relocation proposal because officials are still not addressing the main homeless issue.
Pastor Michael Brown who runs the mission says they were just trying to do their part to help.
Meanwhile the protesters have moved back into Bronson Park, where they are camping in violation of city park rules.
This all sparked when the Commission attempted to decriminalize park rules in late August.
