BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Investigators are looking for the cause of a fire on Martha Drive that killed an elderly man and his dog, but they say it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
Fire crews were dispatched to the four bedroom home on the south side of Battle Creek at about 4am Friday.
Part of the crew went to work on the flames while others executed rescue efforts.
They found 89-year-old Robert Pierce dead in an upstairs bathroom. His dog was also dead at the scene.
They are estimating the damage at $120,000 to the structure and $50,000 to the contents.
It appears the fire may have started in the Kitchen, and they do not suspect foul play.
