KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety officers are searching for a teen that injured one of their own officers during a traffic stop in the Southside Neighborhood.
It happened just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Maple and South Burdick Streets.
Officers were attempting to pull over a 19-year-old man for allegedly driving on a suspended license and fleeing from police the day prior.
However the driver sped off again, hitting the door of the police cruiser as the officer was getting out, causing the door to go smashing into the officer.
The officer was treated at Bronson Hospital for a minor injury.
Investigators are now searching for the 19-year-old Kalamazoo suspect who will be charged with felonious assault on a police officer, fleeing and eluding, and driving with a suspended license when he is found.
An investigation is underway.
