KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A power washer mounted in the back of a box truck exploded Sunday afternoon at a Kalamazoo business, injuring one employee and destroying the truck.
Fire Investigators learned that they were refueling the power washer when it ignited in the closed space at about 12:30 p.m., blowing out the walls of the back of the truck, setting the truck and flammable chemicals stored in the back on fire.
Sgt. Steven Heyduck says they had to use specialized extinguishers in addition to water to put out the blaze.
It happened at Schupan Aluminum and Plastic Sales in the 4200 block of Davis Creek Court.
The name of the injured man was not released. He suffered flash burns and was hit by shrapnel but is expected to recover.
