KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — There is some organized opposition to Proposition 1 on the fall ballot. That’s the legalization of Marijuana for recreational use, but it’s scattered and not very well funded.
They may not be able to afford a big TV campaign but they are initiating grassroots efforts, working hard to get out the word that adding another mind-altering substance to society may not be the best idea.
Ashley Bergeon with the Kalamazoo County Substance Abuse Task force says they have seen steady declines in marijuana use among teens for 8 years and they are afraid that would end if Proposal 1 passes.
That’s what they have seen in Colorado. Its hurt schools, increased the number of marijuana patients ending up in the hospital, increased auto crashes and generally made Colorado a more dangerous place.
They assembled several speakers on the subject and held a town hall meeting on the legalization question at Kalamazoo’s downtown Library Monday evening.
She says because they receive federal funding they can’t tell anyone how to vote, but they can express their concerns.
