KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo’s Metro Transit system has just received word that they will be getting $2.8-million in federal funding to buy new buses.
It will be matched by a $700,000 state transportation grant to bring the total to over 3.5-million, enough to buy 7 to 8 new buses.
Director Sean McBride says it will allow them to replace older buses that have become maintenance problems. “This grant will help grow our public transportation in a very positive way. We’re very excited.”
The system, with its later runs and Sunday service is now providing over 3-million rides annually.
The new buses with their red and grey paint schemes will become the standard look for the system.
