KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — For years, decades really…Chris Thomas was closer to the election process in Michigan than any other person.
He was the Director of Elections under both Democrats and Republicans and he kept his personal opinions about election reforms to himself.
With his retirement, he feels free to speak and that’s just what he is doing, traveling around the state on behalf of Proposal 3.
He was recently in Kalamazoo Wednesday night for a meet and greet downtown.
He says Proposal 3 would help Michigan catch up to what other states are already doing.
That includes no excuse absentee ballots, election audits, more voter friendly registration that continues right up to Election Day.
He also says it includes the restoration of straight party voting, after the third time that Republicans have tried to get rid of it.
A recent House Fiscal agency review of the proposal found it would cost next to nothing to implement, that the state is already doing some of the reforms, like ballot audits.
This would protect the reforms by putting them in the State Constitution.
