KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Vice Mayor Jeanne Hess says road construction is fine, but it won’t make the city safer if drivers don’t get serious about getting behind the wheel.
It’s a personal subject for her. Hess says she has been involved in four collisions in recent years, each one of them caused by an inattentive driver.
In comments made at this week’s city commission meeting, Hess said for her, it’s a question of trust.
She says Kalamazoo Public Safety logged 468 citations for failure to stop in a clear distance in 2024, up from 432 the year before, so the problem is getting worse.
They had hoped to see a drop in the numbers, after changes to some streets.
