KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s March and another busy construction season is just weeks away in Kalamazoo.
City commissioners will get an update this afternoon on what is planned, and what city staff is doing to mitigate the impact.
Last year’s construction was very disruptive, not only to navigation, but to the health of several local businesses, some did not recover.
Commissioner Stefanie Hoffman doesn’t want a repeat.
Utilities director James Baker says they have assembled a team to avoid that.
He says the work schedule should not be as disruptive.
More work is planned on Westnedge Avenue, but the focus of the work will be on Kalamazoo Avenue and on the near west side.
The presentation will be made during the City Commissions’ Committee of the Whole meeting at 5 p.m.
Commissioners are expected to issue a notice of intent for nearly $154-million in bonds, for the street work and water utility projects planned over the next few years at this evening’s regular meeting.
