KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Halloween is here and officals are making sure parents, trick-or-treaters, and drivers alike all have a safe and enjoyable night.
Here is a list of tips, Halloween events, and more around Kalamazoo.
SAFETY TIPS:
A Safe Kids study shows that children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween than on any other day of the year.
Triple A Spokesperson Nancy Cain says there’s the usual no texting and driving and no drinking and driving, but there’s much more to be aware of on Halloween.
She says drivers should always be cautious of eager trick-or-treaters darting out in the street in dark colored costumes, but children should be just as cautious.
They should alway look both ways before crossing the street, stay on the sidewalk as much as possible, and wear reflectors, light colored costumes, or a glowstick to be seen.

TRUNK OR TREAT:
If you’re looking for a safe way for the kids to celebrate Halloween in the Edison Neighborhood, there will be a Trunk-or-Treat Block Party Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 1009 Stockbridge Avenue.
There will be free food, candy distribution, games, live music and youth activities.
The event is being sponsored by the Urban Alliance, the Kalamazoo Experiential Learning Center and the Department of Public Safety.
TRICK OR TREAT TIMES:
The streets are going to be filling with ghosts and goblins later today, but parents should first check trick-or-treat city times in their area.
Many West Michigan cities allow trick-or-treating between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Halloween night; however, Kalamazoo does not have a recommended start and end time.
