KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two local officials say it is time to protest the Trump administration’s attempts to cut programs that hurt people.
Kalamazoo city commissioner Don Cooney and Kalamazoo County board chair Jen Strebs say the residents who are the most vulnerable may suffer the biggest hits.
Cooney, who is a social work professor at Western Michigan University, says he believes it will ultimately be the people who decide what happens under our constitutional system.
Strebs, who works in the mental health field, says efforts are underway to convene a meeting of local elected officials to talk about potential cuts and schedule a town hall to get public input.
There have already been protests in Washington, mainly by government employees facing possible layoffs.
