KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo City Commissioners have approved a contract to partially address the problem of recent flooding in the Southtown area.
It’s a first step. City Manager Jim Ritsema says the work will begin in the spring. There is also a plan to flush out storm sewer lines in the area.
Flooding recently may have also been due to the fact that this has been one of the wettest years on record. That saturation is also responsible for flooding in Texas Township and other neighboring counties. A return to normal weather may also prevent future flooding.
The City is also working with the U.S. Geological Survey to study commonly flooded areas in an effort to predict how bad future floods will be.
