PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — A woman who was a caretaker for her desperately ill mother has been given 5 to 15-years in prison for giving her mom a lethal dose of an opioid based painkiller.
Susan Kubicek told the judge she was just doing what a nurse told her to do when sentenced.
87-year-old Dorothy Allen died from an injection that was 80-times more powerful than normal. Allen had had her thyroid removed and had undergone a series of radiation treatments and needed 24-hour care.
The 60-year-old Kubicek of Portage had originally been charged with 2nd degree murder, but agreed to plead no contest to involuntary manslaughter to reduce the charge.
