LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer is urging the state House and Senate to pass a short-term extension of Michigan’s current minimum wage until July 1, 2025.
Her office says that needs to be done if they can’t reach a bipartisan deal on keeping wages for tipped employees at a lower level than minimum wage.
Restaurant owners, wait staff, bartenders, and others have been begging lawmakers to keep their lower wage in place, as it is set to rise to be even with minimum wage in five years.
The House has passed bills keeping the tipped minimum wage in place, and the Senate has a committee hearing today on their bills.
