KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade is meeting with family members to discuss the possibility of adding metal detectors at the entrances of all middle and high schools in the district.
He held a forum last night at Kalamazoo Central High School and says the district already has them, using them only for special events.
Most of the parents at last night’s meeting favored turning the detectors on, saying their kids are worried about safety when they go to class.
Slade says the school board will vote on the detectors later this spring and they would test them out toward the end of the school year if approved.
